The trajectory of the character's downward spiral, for example, although wonderfully complex and dynamic, resembles “Falling Down” and “The Fan.” The underlying thesis arising from his actions brings to mind “John Q” and “Runaway Jury."
The material combines bullying with motivation for mass shooting, and by doing so, feels topical on current issues and brings something relevant and fresh to the genre. This narrative has a much more saturnine tone (“American History X”) than usual bullying films, which makes the “feel-good” ending all the more effective.
"Strong Positive Message With Commercial Appeal. Solid Structure. Tone Works. Great Opening."
The focus on bullying makes “Cold Blooded Victim” similar to “Hope Floats.” Here the themes and conflict center on a high school student’s engagement with the bullies around them. Otherwise, what’s here is similar to the father-son themes found in “World's Greatest Dad.” The focus on bullying feels relevant in a way that illustrates this is an untapped genre.
"The premise’s dramatic mood is both readily apparent and well maintained throughout. The subsequent disconnect within the family unit renders each of them uniquely susceptible to individual trials and tribulations, and thus paves the way for a profoundly poignant, tragic tale that sheds exceptional light on the frailties of the human condition."
This core concept feels reminiscent of the driving ideas behind films such as "We Need To Talk About Kevin" and "Elephant."
